Unfortunately for The Housemaid, it shackles its historical elements with much weaker horror and romance genre tropes. The horror is incredibly generic, being comprised of jump scares, ghostly goings on, dark woods, and objects moving by themselves. Equally uninspired is the romance plot which is seriously lacking.
